Shannon Augustus serves as Press Secretary of the League of Women Voters of the United States, where she is responsible for the League’s press outreach and media requests.

Prior to joining the League, Shannon served as a strategic marketing manager for a state government affairs firm. There, she led the firm's strategic marketing, communications, and brand messaging.

Shannon’s professional career started in the television industry, where she worked at C-SPAN for several years as a producer. Her stints included coverage of the White House and multiple presidential elections. She also held roles on C-SPAN’s marketing and communications team for the C-SPAN Bus program. In that role, Shannon served as spokesman and was tasked with the network's corporate and community relations activities.  

Shannon is a native of the Washington, DC area and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Maryland.

WASHINGTON — Today League of Women Voters of the United States CEO Virginia Kase Solomón issued the following statement after the US Senate passed bipartisan gun safety legislation:

WASHINGTON — Today, the US Supreme Court ruled 6 – 3 in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen that New York’s 100-year-old law restricting certain individuals from carrying concealed weapons in public places is unconstitutional, effectively weakening gun safety laws around the country.  

PROVIDENCE — Last week, litigation filed by Rhode Island students seeking to establish a constitutional right to a civics education ended with an agreement that both sides agree will strengthen civics education in the state. The League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of Rhode Island filed an amicus brief in the case — Cook v. McKee — highlighting the powerful connection between civics education and voter participation.

ATLANTA TODAY The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), Southern Coalition for Social Justice (SCSJ), ACLU of Georgia, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (Lawyer’s Committee), and Schulte, Roth & Zabel LLP (SRZ) filed litigation challenging the Cobb County School Board map for intentionally discriminating against communities of color, particularly Black and Latinx voters, by “packing” them into a small number of districts to dilute their voting power.
