Using Data
Now that you have collected data (see Data Collection Toolkit for advice on that!), it is time to use your League’s data to tell your story of impact. As you plan to share these results with others, consider the audience you’d like to resonate with your work.
Your League's Data Use
Any data that your League collects can be used to show your League’s impact! You can choose what data your League shares.
State Leagues’ VOTE411 registration data lives in the state-level Excel spreadsheet that all state Leagues receive from LWVUS. If your League did not include VOTE411 data when you filled out the Annual League Survey, you may add it to the number of voters registered that your League provided in the survey to show your total voter registration impact!
If you don’t love certain datapoints from your League's data, then don’t feel like you must share them! The data you share should make your League proud of the work. If numbers show room for improvement, use these internally to discuss strategy for growth. Since numbers don’t give us the full picture, you can also share stories from your volunteers, from a new member and why they joined, or about what your League plans to do this year!
National Data Use
Leagues can share the national data published by the LWVUS Evaluation department with funders, on social media, with your League members, and with the general public, as desired.
Sharing Data with Funders
When presenting to foundations or other donors about potential gifts, you can compile your best data into a one-pager or graphic. Your League’s State-Level Factsheet could be a good item to share. If you are a local League, you can show that your League contributes to the work across the state. You can present all of the numbers but don’t have to focus on all the information.
Select the data points that most align with the interests or values of the organization or people you are ‘pitching.’ That doesn’t mean you need to hide your work in other areas but customize the pitch for your audience. Highlight the best work your League did and plans to do. Indicate the benefit of the volunteer power of the League. You can always use our Canva Templates below to highlight the data you’d like to share.
Sharing Data via Social Media
Posting on social media can be as easy as posting a single data point. If your League held 30 election related activities in 2023, use a Canva Template that can show the power of this one number! Then in the caption, write about the work in greater context.
Want to share more than one number on social media? Use the Canva Templates below to punch in your data from the Annual League Survey, grant reports, or any data that you collect! These are fully editable, so you can change the wording or swap out different data points as you desire. Or create your own using Canva's many templates!
