What Data Could My League Collect?

In response to this need to improve our data and evaluation culture, and considering the input Leagues provided during this recorded Data to Action Listening Session, we will be offering three training sessions.

“Everybody needs data literacy, because data is everywhere” - Piyanka Jain

As shared in the recent blog Learning About the League Through Data, our Semi-Annual Survey Project has provided an opportunity to better understand League activities, partnerships, DEI efforts and additional support needed. Responses to the survey in the Fall of 2021 also demonstrated a need for training around data literacy:

“We do not have the capacity or the technical expertise for ongoing data collection”

“We just haven’t been tracking these data”

“The main challenge is gathering the information in such a way that fits within the parameters of the survey”

“The biggest challenge was collecting accurate data”

Although we have a 47% response rate to the Semi-Annual Survey (compared to the 20% industry standard), we accept that the data being reported (e.g. activities, volunteers, members) are not exactly precise, or simply can’t be reported on. Nevertheless, this is providing us a general sense of the data culture across Leagues. We can use this estimated baseline to measure any future progress.

In response to this need to improve our data and evaluation culture, and considering the input Leagues provided during this recorded Data to Action Listening Session, we will be offering three training sessions:

Summary of the three upcoming trainings on April 14, May 12, and during LWV's Convention.

If you’re interested in more guidance on what data your League could collect and how other Leagues are already doing this, then please click here to register for the first training on April 14th at 7pm EST.

Additional trainings will occur on May 12th and during the League's biannual convention. More information on these trainings is to come.

If you have any questions about this training series, please contact Mariana Schmalstig Diaz, Evaluation Specialist, at [email protected].
