Leagues can use this sample template when drafting their debate recording policy:
“The recording of this event is owned by the League of Women Voters of [LOCATION] and may not be used for any purpose without the explicit written permission of the League of Women Voters of [LOCATION].”
We recommend including language stating ownership and permissions of the debate recording in the following three places.
-
In the debate rules that candidates must sign and agree to ahead of the debate
-
Stated verbally by the moderator before the debate begins
-
In the video description of any live stream or recorded version of the debate
If you are broadcasting in partnership with a media entity or other group, share this standard language with them and work together to develop a policy that you can use jointly.
